How Mets' addition of Bo Bichette could lead to a Brett Baty Red Sox trade image

The New York Mets have had a tumultuous 24 hours. They first lost Kyle Tucker to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a heartbreaker, but a little over 12 hours later, they made up for the loss.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Mets are in agreement on a $126 million, three-year deal. Bichette joins the Mets roster as the team's new third baseman, which will have massive ramifications on the roster construction.

This addition for the Mets could lead to a blockbuster trade involving the Boston Red Sox and Brett Baty. These two teams now match up perfectly for a deal involving Baty and one of the highly coveted Red Sox outfielders.

Mets have perfect opportunity to trade with Red Sox after Bo Bichette addition

The Mets, now with Bichette playing third base, Francisco Lindor at shortstop, Marcus Semien at second base, and Jorge Polanco at first base, have no real spot for Baty.

He could try slotting into the outfield, but there's a much easier and better solution for the Mets. If they can work out the rest of the deal, the Mets and Red Sox match up well for a swap of Baty for an outfielder.

Most likely, if such a trade were to occur, it would involve Jarren Duran coming to the Mets and Baty going to the Red Sox.

Baty would help the Red Sox fill their void at third base, with Marcelo Mayer moving to second base.

For the Mets, they clear their infield logjam and add Duran to their outfield to vastly improve their outfield as a whole.

There would likely need to be more in this deal for the Mets, but sending Baty and more to the Red Sox for Duran would make a lot of sense for the Mets.

Before this Bichette addition, the Mets didn't have a good trade path with the Red Sox. But now, the Mets have an infielder the Red Sox are looking for, and they have the outfielder the Mets are looking for.

A trade between these two teams makes a ton of sense. The only question left is whether the Mets plan to move on from Baty or try to develop him in the outfield this season.
