The Minnesota Twins made a trade Friday to acquire a player whose name once came with a lot more shine.
The newest member of the Twins' organization is catcher Alex Jackson. Minnesota got him in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles for minor league infielder Peyton Eagles, according to MASN's Roch Kubatko.
Jackson was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners out of a San Diego-area high school.
But in the dozen years since, Jackson has never quite panned out. He'll turn 30 on Christmas, and he's a.153 career hitter at the MLB level.
There is good news about Jackson, though. In 2025, he had a more productive MLB season. He hit.220 with five home runs in 91 at bats. His Wins Above Replacement was positive (0.6) in limited action, raising his career mark, which is still negative.
Jackson has appeared in the majors for the Braves, Rays, Marlins, Brewers and Orioles.
Before his.763 OPS with the Orioles in 2025, his best OPS for a single team was his.538 mark with the Marlins. So there's some notable improvement here.
There's a chance Jackson was just fortunate with Baltimore and will fall back off, and that the Twins won't gain anything from this move.
But they saw the chance to add an intriguing athlete to their system, and they took it for a very low cost.
Maybe the slight breakthrough for Jackson in 2025 is something that can continue going forward.
