After conducting a fire sale at last season's trade deadline (trading away 10 major leaguers), the Minnesota Twins have been quite quiet thus far in the 2026 offseason. Signing veteran catcher Victor Caratini to a two-year $14 million contract has been their most notable move to date.

That said, they made an internal move Monday, hiring one of their former players. Just days after announcing his retirement, longtime closer and 13-year veteran Ryan Pressly has agreed to join the Twins in a player development role according to MLB insiders Jon Heyman and Declan Goff.

Pressly spent the first five and a half seasons of his career with the Twins before being traded to the Houston Astros, where he won a World Series title in 2022.

Pressly was traded again in the 2025 offseason, spending one final year with the Chicago Cubs before deciding to retire after experiencing a bit of regression.

In 667 career games, Pressly posted a 3.33 ERA, 721 strikeouts and 117 saves over 691 1/3 innings pitched.

He was especially dominant in a five-year span from 2018-2022, averaging a 2.57 ERA, 88 strikeouts and 19 saves per season over that span.

Now back with Minnesota, Pressly is expected to work in multiple capacities, spending time with both major and minor leaguers.

This marks the second such signing by the Twins recently, as the organization hired 12-year MLB veteran and former Twin Michael A. Taylor as an outfield instructor last week.
