Brewers predicted to land former All-Star third baseman from Diamondbacks image

The Milwaukee Brewers are one of the hottest teams in baseball, winning seven of their last 10 games and going 14-8 so far in June.

Milwaukee has closed in on the Chicago Cubs this month, sitting only three games back from first place in the National League Central after being six-and-a-half games back at one point.

After calling up top prospect Jacob Misiorowski, the pitching staff is one of the best in baseball.

The biggest hole on the roster is third base, manned by rookie Caleb Durbin. Durbin, 25, has four home runs and 29 RBI while slashing just .236/.318/.349.

Nick Selbe of Sports Illustrated ranked the top trade candidates and predicted where their landing spots, including a former All-Star third baseman landing with the Brew Crew.

Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez would be a perfect fit for Milwaukee and boost their playoff odds.

Suárez, 33, is having an incredible power-hitting season with Arizona. In 78 games, Suárez has 25 home runs (fourth-best in Major League Baseball) and 67 RBI (tied-second) while slashing .251/.323/.569.

“The 33-year-old leads the NL in RBIs and is on pace to top his previous career high of 49 home runs set during the 2019 juiced-ball season,” wrote Selbe. “D-Backs GM Mike Hazen has thus far indicated an unwillingness to sell, but top prospect Jordan Lawlar is waiting in the wings, Suárez is a pending free agent and Arizona may not have the pitching to keep up in the playoff race following season-ending injuries to ace Corbin Burnes and closers Justin Martinez and A.J. Puk.”

With Milwaukee surging, Suárez would be a perfect addition for the second half of the season to make a playoff push.
