Eury Perez is back.
If that's not an exciting sentence, let's take a moment to remember just how special this Miami Marlins pitching phenom is.
It's been a while. Perez hasn't pitched in an MLB game since Sept. 2023. A UCL injury during 2024 spring training kept him out until this point.
But this is a guy who debuted at 20 years old, put up a 3.15 ERA and struck out nearly a third of the batters he faced.
At 6-foot-8 with a brilliant smile, Perez is a potential face of the franchise.
And then there's this stat:
Very excited for the Eury Pérez return today. The last time we saw him, he had *three* pitches with at least a 40% whiff rate and batters have hit .146 against his pitches that are not fastballs in his career.

At his best, Perez is pretty much untouchable.
The Marlins have paced Perez's comeback carefully. He made eight rehab starts before his return to the majors.
In those rehab outings, Perez had a 1.99 ERA and 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings. He certainly seems ready to return.
The Marlins could use this extra hope that Perez will provide. His future is still so, so bright.
