The stats reason Dodgers finally benched Andy Pages for Alex Call image

The Los Angeles Dodgers gave Andy Pages all the chances they possibly could.

But on Wednesday, his opportunity has run out.

The Dodgers have finally benched their centerfielder. Alex Call will bat ninth and play center in Game 5 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Manager Dave Roberts didn't want to bench Pages. The talented outfielder was second on the Dodgers in home runs during the regular season.

But in a 2-2 series, with everything hanging in the balance, Roberts felt he had no choice.

Why did the Dodgers bench Andy Pages for Alex Call?

The Dodgers benched Pages because at this point, the numbers don't lie.

Pages has been miserable at the plate the entire postseason.

Through 14 postseason games, Pages has had 50 at bats. And in those 50 at bats, he has four hits.

Yep, 4-for-50. That's an.080 batting average. He has one double, no walks and 11 strikeouts. His OPS in the span is.100.

Through the first four games of the World Series, Pages is just 1-for-15 (.067).

Call has gotten five at bats and is 1-for-5. He's also regarded as a strong defender in centerfield.

There's no guarantee this change sticks. Maybe the Dodgers just give Pages a game to catch his breath and reset.

But for Game 5, it's Call and not Pages, and the numbers really left no choice.
