Kyle Tucker contract details: How much deferred money did Dodgers give new star? image

The Los Angeles Dodgers made the biggest move of the offseason so far, coming to terms with Kyle Tucker on a massive $240 million, four-year contract per Robert Murray of Fansided.com.

But, with how the Dodgers and other clubs in recent years have put so much into deferrals, there have been questions about how much of this $240 million is deferred.

Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported the figure the Dodgers are deferring into the future, and it's a surprisingly low amount for this massive deal.

Dodgers deferrals for Kyle Tucker $240M deal revealed

"Tucker's Dodgers deal has $30M on deferrals out of the $240M," Heyman reported.

This is a surprising amount for the Dodgers to defer, as Tucker's $240 million deal would very likely have more in deferrals for most other clubs.

Instead, the Dodgers are deferring most of it, only putting $30 million into the future in deferrals, a shift from their previous spending.

While the specifics for how much is deferred in each season aren't known, the Dodgers are still spending a lot on Tucker. It's an absurd $60 million AAV for Tucker, and while the $30 million in deferrals will lower that official number, it won't be by much.

For comparison, the Chicago Cubs signed Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million contract. The Cubs front office had $70 million in deferrals to that deal.

40% of Bregman's contract is deferred, while just 12.5% of Tucker's deal is deferred. It's still a lot of money, but it's not nearly as much as most would've expected when seeing the Dodgers sign Tucker for $240 million.

He has opt-outs after the second and third season, so there might be some financial relief for the Dodgers if he decides to hit free agency again after the 2027 season.

But, for now, Tucker is coming to the Dodgers on a massive $240 million deal, with just $30 million deferred.

This signing is such a huge one for the Dodgers, as their quest to try and three-peat with World Series titles is a lot more feasible with Tucker's bat in the heart of the lineup.
