Dodgers writer says Tigers' Tarik Skubal's agent will draw line on potential $400M LA decision image

The Los Angeles Dodgers are back-to-back World Series champions, achieving the feat for the first time in over two decades. Now, there’s a strong chance they could go for three in a row. Rumors have swirled about Detroit Tigers’ Tarik Skubal being traded to Los Angeles, and starter Tyler Glasnow made his feelings clear on the potential addition.

“But I think it’d be sick if we went out and got him [Skubal]. He’s probably one of the most unbelievable pitchers I’ve ever seen, and I’ve just heard such good things about him, too. …He’d be a perfect fit; just to pitch along with him in the rotation would be kind of a dream. So I hope we get that done,” Glasnow said on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.

Dodgers beat writer Blake Harris, however, doubts that Skubal’s agent, Scott Boras, will allow an extension to happen after a trade.

“Unless the Dodgers are offering $400M+ Boras ain't letting his client sign an extension. You're trading for him because he helps you THIS YEAR. Having him for a year also HELPS your case to sign him in FA. Package is also not as steep without extension,” Harris wrote.

While the Dodgers have shown interest, it remains a “wait and see” situation to determine how eager they truly are. Skubal is projected to reset the starting pitcher market.

“Skubal will reset the market for pitchers and become the highest-paid starting pitcher in history, with a realistic starting price north of $400 million. Therefore, even though the Tigers are in position to compete for the postseason next year, it’s likely they shop Skubal at the Winter Meetings and try to make the best trade they can,” The Athletic’s Jim Bowden wrote.

It will be interesting to see how much the Dodgers are willing to give if Boras remains difficult to negotiate with. While Boras is certainly skilled at his job, simply trading for Skubal as a one-year rental may not be realistic.

However, if the Dodgers can secure some sort of pledge, they would likely be more willing to make a deal. With plenty of time left in the offseason, there’s no doubt the Dodgers will continue to explore options to get a deal done.
