The New York Yankees, among other contenders, are in need of a third baseman. Could the Los Angeles Dodgers swipe the best available third baseman off the market?

Eugenio Suárez figures to be the talk of the trade deadline. Many contenders like the Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers could use him on their team. Meanwhile, the Dodgers do not need a third baseman, but CBS Sports' Matt Snyder suggested the Dodgers trade for him simply to keep him away from other contenders.

"If they grabbed a third baseman, Tommy Edman could slide over to second base," wrote Snyder. "Hyeseong Kim becomes a good bench player. Edman becomes outfield depth when Muncy returns with the ability to play second base too. The additional depth guards against future injuries and, let's face it, the Dodgers' offense hasn't been quite as good as advertised lately. They've averaged 3.82 runs per game in July while hitting just .212/.280/.369 as a team. "

Edman has been scuffling at the plate, so the Dodgers could benefit from an upgrade in their lineup. Muncy was playing well before his injury, so a lineup that features Muncy at second base and Suárez in the hot corner could help get the Dodgers back on track.

Suárez could start a bidding war among contenders, so it's unclear if the Dodgers would be willing to outbid a more needy team. Even if the Dodgers do not get Suárez, they seem comfortable with Muncy at third base and Edman at second base.

Additionally, if the Dodgers are looking for ways to upgrade their offense, they have everything they need in-house. Hyeseong Kim has played great this season, and if the Dodgers want to get rid of Michael Conforto in their lineup, they could play Edman in the outfield and let Kim serve as the everyday second baseman.
