The Los Angeles Dodgers made a trade before the 2025 season to add one of the fastest players in baseball.

It didn't really lead to any breakthroughs, and on Monday, they traded him away.

That's Esteury Ruiz.

He came to L.A. From the Athletics.

On Monday, he was sent away to the Miami Marlins.

The deal was reported by insider Francys Romero. There was no detail on what the return to the Dodgers was.

Ruiz is a 26-year old outfielder.

He got just 21 at bats in the majors in 2025, hitting one home run and stealing four bases.

His crowning season was 2023 with the Athletics. In 132 games, he batted.254 and stole an AL-leading 67 bases.

He has also played for the Padres and Brewers in his career already.

Ruiz certainly has a better chance of breaking through with the Marlins. He's a bit of a throwback player with his base-stealing prowess.

It would be fun for fans in Miami to have Ruiz make the roster and add his explosiveness to a team on the rise, for sure.

The Dodgers still have plenty of depth and likely used this deal to clear a 40-man roster spot.
