Dodgers rumor features interest in Yankees' star free agent image

The Los Angeles Dodgers have one glaring need.

The back-to-back World Series champions head into free agency looking for a closer.

And they may just find one in the form of a former New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers star.

The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya reported that the Dodgers are interested in signing Devin Williams.

The two-time All Star had a bumpy start to 2025 in the Bronx but looked more like his old self as the season went along.

The Marlins have been reported as interested in Williams, as well.

The Dodgers thought they had made their closer splash last offseason when they signed Tanner Scott, but he fell well short of expectations.

Williams was a big offseason trade pickup for the Yanks, and he too wasn't as good as expected.

While the Yankees could try to bring Williams back, it probably makes sense for him to seek a fresh scene.

The Dodgers could provide that, if the big market and expectations of New York didn't bother Williams.

MLB Trade Rumors earlier this offseason projected Williams could get an offer of four years and $68 million (which they say is second among free agent relievers only to former Mets star Edwin Diaz).

The Dodgers certainly have the deep pockets to pay a relief pitcher that kind of cash.

Williams might be just what they're looking for.
