The Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching staff is decimated by injuries, and the team is trying to find healthy arms to eat innings. They just claimed a former draft pick off waivers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers drafted Nick Nastrini in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of California. However, they traded him to the Chicago White Sox in 2023 in the deal that brought Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly to the Dodgers. They claimed him off waivers today, according to an announcement by the team on X.
He made his big league debut last season. He had a 7.98 ERA in nine games, eight of which were starts. He was claimed by the Miami Marlins off waivers on July 1, but he was designated for assignment on Wednesday.
He has been in the minor leagues all season and has a 7.58 ERA in 21 games. He has made seven starts, but his numbers are not too encouraging. Noah Davis was designated for assignment as the corresponding move.
The Dodgers got Tyler Glasnow back this week, and Blake Snell is working his way back as well. Shohei Ohtani is also continuing his build-up to being a starter. The Dodgers are getting healthier, but they need options to eat innings just in case.

Nastrini will likely spend most of his time in the minor leagues, but should something happen, he would likely be a long relief option for the team. He will not play any real role on the team, but alas, he is back with the organization that drafted him.
