Dodgers miss out on exciting South Korea pitching prospect as Blue Jays swoop in image

The Los Angeles Dodgers have become known as the premier destination for promising Asian baseball players.

After signing Shohei Ohtani to a massive extension, the likes of Roki Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Hyeseong Kim followed. The Roki Sasaki signing before this season was huge because of the number of teams that wanted the Nippon Professional Baseball phenom.

One of those teams the Dodgers had to fend off was the Toronto Blue Jays, who got their revenge in a way this week when they made a notable signing.

Blue Jays sign 18-year-old Seojun Moon

Seojun Moon is an exciting teenage prospect from South Korea. The Dodgers had been heavily interested in him (of course), but he is now a member of the Blue Jays organization.

The Blue Jays dedicated a little over $1 million to Moon, but considering the Dodgers dished out so much international money to Roki Sasaki, they could not quite outbid Toronto for the next potential Asian star.

Moon has a tall six-foot-five frame and features a 95 mph fastball and a variety of breaking pitches. Moon is fresh out of high school, where he posted a low ERA of 2.18.

The Asian market has practically been the Dodgers' second minor league farm system, but this time, it's the Blue Jays who get some slight revenge on the Dodgers after stealing away Sasaki.

Moon is just 18 years of age and is still a raw arm. Success in MLB is never guaranteed, no matter how talented you are, but if the Blue Jays' player development team can do a good job in the maturation process, Seojun Moon could be a star in the years to come.
