The Los Angeles Dodgers rarely stay quiet for long, and even amid an impressive offseason, there’s reason to believe they could still have a major move left in them.

As the roster continues to improve, the Dodgers may look to the trade market for one more piece that prioritizes versatility, defense, and reliability rather than star power.

That’s where Nico Hoerner enters the conversation.

Evan Massey of Heavy.com floated the idea of Los Angeles targeting Hoerner in a trade with the Chicago Cubs, mainly due to a major shift in Chicago’s infield plans.

“Looking at the rest of the offseason, the Dodgers could consider pursuing a big trade that might have come available. That trade would include Los Angeles pursuing a trade with the Chicago Cubs for second baseman Nico Hoerner.

“After the Cubs were able to sign star free agent third baseman Alex Bregman to a five-year, $175 million contract, Hoerner could be made available for trade. If that does happen, the Dodgers should consider pursuing him,” he wrote.

With Alex Bregman now locked in at third base, the Cubs could explore ways to rebalance their roster and payroll. Hoerner, while extremely valuable, may suddenly be one of their more movable assets.

For the Dodgers, Hoerner checks a lot of boxes and could help put Mookie Betts back in the outfield if they wanted to get very creative.

We already know all of the talent the Dodgers have, but that doesn't mean Andrew Friedman isn't going to go out and do what's needed to continue adding to that.
