The 2025 MLB season has come to a close, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions once again. With back-to-back titles, the Dodgers have cemented their place among baseball’s elite franchises.

Los Angeles captured its second consecutive championship by defeating the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games. In the decisive Game 7, Will Smith launched a go-ahead home run in the top of the 11th inning before Yoshinobu Yamamoto forced Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk to ground into a game-ending double play in the bottom half. The play ended the Blue Jays’ rally, securing a 5-4 victory and another title for Los Angeles.

The Dodgers trailed for most of the game before tying it in the ninth and taking their first and final lead in extra innings.

With the win, Los Angeles now owns nine World Series championships in franchise history. The victory breaks a tie with their division rival, the San Francisco Giants, who have eight titles. It also moves the Dodgers into a tie for third place all time among MLB franchises, joining the Boston Red Sox and the Athletics franchise—now the Las Vegas Athletics—with nine titles apiece.

Only the New York Yankees, with 27 championships, and the St. Louis Cardinals, with 11, have won more.

Next season, the Dodgers will have a chance to make even more history. A 10th championship would move them into sole possession of third place and mark a rare three-peat, a feat accomplished only by the Yankees (1998-2000) and the 1972-74 Oakland Athletics.
