The Los Angeles Dodgers are just four wins away from winning back-to-back World Series titles for the first time in a long while. It’s been a lengthy championship drought in MLB, but this could be the year. However, the Dodgers’ bullpen made it seem like it might be a long postseason during the Wild Card series.
“This is why the Dodgers face an uphill battle to win the World Series. Alex Vesia and Edgardo Henriquez were two of LA's best relievers this year and couldn't comfortably protect an 8-run lead. The starters literally have to carry this team through October, including in relief,” Dodgers Nation’s Noah Camras wrote.
Speaking of Vesia, he won’t be on the World Series roster due to the most heartbreaking reason imaginable.
“It's with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter. The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date,” the Los Angeles Dodgers’ official account posted.
Now, the Dodgers are exploring every possible option to find a loophole that would allow Vesia to rejoin the roster if he’s able to return. There might be one available.
“One potential option for the Dodgers could be to put Alex Vesia on the Family Medical Emergency List. That comes with a minimum duration of three days, but would allow them to put him back on the roster later in the series if he's able to return by then (and replace him with someone else in the meantime),” Dodgers beat writer Jack Harris wrote.
If this option is used, Vesia could be eligible to rejoin the team later in the series. However, there’s still no update on the specifics of his situation.
This could be a short-term absence for Vesia, or it might take longer depending on the circumstances. Either way, the Dodgers will certainly miss one of their most reliable relievers.
