Dodgers get bad news on Kyle Tucker amid bleak free agent update image

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of the biggest spenders over the last few offseasons, and this year, it's been a big change.

While they signed Edwin Diaz away from the New York Mets on a $63 million deal, they're not going after the top free agents like they used to. While the roster is strong, they could use an upgrade, especially in the outfield.

Kyle Tucker would make a lot of sense for this team, and yet, the free-agent update from ESPN's Jeff Passan is bleak, not just for Tucker, but for the entire free-agent class still available.

"Would they like Tucker? Sure. Anyone would," Passan writes. "Will they chase him? Nope. Not unless it's a shorter-term deal. Same with any free agent, really..."

This update from Passan is not an unexpected one, given the rumors circulating about the Dodgers this winter, but it does put things into perspective.

Despite the Dodgers being the biggest spender in recent MLB history, they're not going as aggressively as they did the last few offseasons.

They've already landed a ton of incredible talent and don't have many holes. Diaz will help a bullpen that was struggling mightily last year, but beyond him, there isn't a glaring hole.

Someone like Tucker, Cody Bellinger, or Bo Bichette would be a nice addition to the lineup and roster for the Dodgers, and typically, they'd be in their markets.

But, according to Passan, the Dodgers aren't nearly as involved as they once were. Instead, the Dodgers are waiting to see if a market collapses, and if so, then they'd get involved.

Dodgers fans hoping for a big free agent addition shouldn't hold out much hope. This report from Passan doesn't indicate any such move is coming, as the Dodgers, thanks to their spending the last few offseasons, are not going to chase the top free agents.

If they want to come to Los Angeles, that's one thing. But, barring such a situation, the Dodgers likely won't be adding any more top names this winter.
