The Colorado Rockies opened their fourth-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers dramatically, walking it off in a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory last night at Coors Field.
Los Angeles jumped ahead early, plating two runs in the second inning. Colorado answered quickly in the third, when Ryan Ritter delivered a two-run single to even the score. The Dodgers regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI double by Alex Freeland, but the back-and-forth continued. Ezequiel Tovar electrified the home crowd in the seventh with a game-tying solo homer to set the stage for late-inning heroics.
With the score still tied in the ninth, Tovar stood on second base with one out when Warming Bernabel came to the plate. The 22-year-old delivered the biggest swing of his young career, lining a single to center field to bring Tovar home for the walk-off win.
The game-winning RBI was the first of Bernabel's career, and it added to what has already been an impressive start. Currently slashing .417/.667/1.083 in ninth-inning at-bats, Bernabel has quickly shown he can be trusted in pressure moments. Monday night was no exception, as his clutch knock against the reigning champions sent the Rockies pouring out of the dugout to celebrate.
