Angels swipe career .315 minor league hitter from Giants in waiver claim image

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim saw an opportunity and took it.

When the San Francisco Giants placed Wade Meckler on waivers, the Angels didn't let the moment pass them by.

The Angels announced Wednesday that they've claimed Meckler off waivers.

Meckler has always been a phenomenal hitter in the minor leagues, with a.315 career average below MLB.

He has played in just 20 games in the majors for the Giants, batting.232.

Meckler doesn't have a ton of power, but even with that said, he has a career minor league OPS of.850.

He was a Giants draft pick in 2022 out of Oregon State in the eighth round.

Meckler is a 5-foot-10 left-handed hitter, maybe without a ton of upside because of his size and lack of pop, but also potentially a consistent player if he can take his contact skills to the majors.

Also fun: Meckler was born in Anaheim.
