The Los Angeles Angels have been without superstar Mike Trout for the entire month of May. But, the Angels have played well lately, winning eight in a row before losing to the Miami Marlins on Saturday.
That's good news. And, what's even better is Trout should be returning sometime soon. There is no clear timeframe as to when he will be back, but the latest updates have been encouraging.
When Trout does come back, the Angels have a massive decision to make. Do they play him in the outfield or slot him in as designated hitter?
For now, Angels manager Ron Washington isn't thinking about that, per Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register.
“Once Mike is back, we can have that conversation right there, accomplish what we’re trying to accomplish, and move on. We don’t have to have pre-conversations.”
The Angels moved Trout from center field to right field to preserve his health a bit, and Trout played 22 games at right field with seven as the designated hitter.
But, with another injury to Trout, do the Angels move him to permanent DH? It's something to consider, although it would likely mean Jorge Soler taking Trout's place in the outfield.
As of May 24, the Angels are 25-26 and right in the middle of a tight American League West race, so there is some hope on the horizon. Does that mean Trout becomes the DH to preserve him more? We will find out soon enough.
