It was a wild one in front of 35,187 fans at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals went back and forth early in the game, with the Royals leading 4-3 after two innings. Following the Dodgers’ two runs in the fifth, the score stayed 5-4.
That set the stage for the ninth inning. Kansas City got a single from Maikel Garcia, a walk to Vinnie Pasquantino, and a single from Salvador Perez. That loaded the bases with one out for rookie Jac Caglianone. Tanner Scott was on the mound for Los Angeles.

That’s when Freddie Freeman saved the day for the Dodgers. Caglianone hit an absolute rocket to Tommy Edman at second base. He quickly tossed it to Mookie Betts coming across the bag. Betts then sent a bullet into the ground, with Freeman making an absolutely incredible play to catch it and stay on the base. Los Angeles won the game 5-4.
MLB sent out a message following the game with the video of the play:

The play made up for an unusually quiet night for Freeman at the plate. The left-handed slugger went 0-for-4, with two strikeouts in the game. Los Angeles only had four hits in the win, with Shohei Ohtani picking up two of them, including a triple and a home run.
The two teams are set to play again tomorrow afternoon. Ohtani will take the mound for his second appearance of the season. He will face Seth Lugo of the Kansas City Royals.
