The Houston Astros come into the offseason looking to make some moves. They have a need to acquire a starting pitcher with their ace, Framber Valdez, headlining free agency.
However, acquiring a starting pitcher could prove to be difficult. Houston doesn't have a lot of financial flexibility and may need to get creative to acquire a starting pitcher.
The club has already made some moves to shed budget to help the cause. They waived Chas McCormick and Luis Garcia and, more recently, traded Mauricio Dubon straight up for Nick Allen, but fans may be in store for another trade.
ESPN insider adds to Astros outfielder's rampant trade rumors
One area where Houston has some depth is in the outfield. That is partly the reason they waived Chas McCormick, and it could be a reason why they trade Jake Meyers, via ESPN's Jeff Passan.
He tags Meyers in the group of players who are most likely to be traded this offseason.
Passan is not the only person to add to this saga, as The Athletic also views Meyers as a player who could likely be shipped elsewhere.
Meyers could generate a good amount of interest for teams looking to add depth to their outfield. The Philadelphia Phillies could certainly be interested here alongside the New York Mets, who are looking for an outfielder this offseason.
Meyers is coming off a season where he was hampered by a calf issue, but was still able to play in 104 games during the 2025 season. During that time, he hit.292/.354/.373 with three home runs and 24 runs batted in.
Meyers does not hit for a lot of power, but he does hit for contact and has the speed to make a pitcher concerned. He also has a great glove in the outfield, and with his speed, can take away hits in the gap.
