In a crucial win for the Houston Astros amid the American League West race, shortstop Carlos Correa reached a career milestone en route to a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
In the sixth inning, Carlos Correa homered off of Jose Berrios for his 200th career home run, marking a major milestone for the 30-year-old.
This was Correa's sixth home run for Houston in 36 games this season after hitting seven in 93 games with the Minnesota Twins.
It's no surprise to see Correa thriving in Houston once more. In eight years with the Astros, Correa has accumulated 35.1 of his 45.5 career WAR. He’s also recorded 508 RBIs and 139 home runs while batting .277.
His 139th home run also tied Bob Watson for 11th on the Astros’ all-time home run list.
Dealing with several injuries at the moment, Houston will take all the production they can get from Correa. The Astros currently hold a one-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West with 16 games remaining. Seattle has surged with a five-game winning streak after sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Texas Rangers have won four straight and remain in the hunt as well, 2 1/2 games back.
Houston will face both Seattle and Texas in three-game series before season’s end, likely deciding the AL West division race.
If the division slips away, the Astros will still be in the wild-card mix. The Rangers and Cleveland Guardians are chasing the Mariners for the final spot, but if Seattle overtakes Houston, the clubs would swap positions.
