It is tough to make an MLB roster at one position, let alone being someone that a manager can confidently put in several different positions. So, utility players always hold a special place in my heart.

Luckily for me and the fans, multiple utility players have stepped up in recent years. This season alone, players like Zach McKinstry, Maikel Garcia, and Santiago Espinal have been seen playing at least five different positions.

Not only does having the ability to play multiple positions help their case in getting starts, but it also helps the manager fine-tune their lineup for matchups or give guys rest when needed.

One player who has been used at multiple positions for a few seasons now is Houston Astros slugger Mauricio Dubon. He has played seven positions in 2025, making a positive impact for the club.

He is stacked up against Toronto Blue Jays' Ernie Clement and Cleveland Guardians' Daniel Schneemann, but it may come down to just Dubon and Clement. They have both been great, but Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer believes Dubon will edge out Clement for his second Gold Glove Award.

"(Dubon) has stiff competition in the form of Clement, who had a total of +22 Defensive Runs Saved and +14 Outs Above Average. Yet he did his best work at third base and second base, whereas Dubon was a plus defender in the outfield in addition to the infield."

Rymer believes Dubon's elite performance in the outfield alongside his work in the infield is enough to take home the award. However, Clement has certainly done enough to make this a tight race.
