With the MLB trade deadline less than a week away, the Houston Astros are planning to bolster their roster, especially offensively. With the injury to Isaac Paredes, the Astros will explore the third base market.
But, according to a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Astros won't target one of the top options who could be available.
"The Houston Astros would like to find a third baseman while Isaac Paredes recovers from his hamstring tear," Nightengale writes, "but have no interest in reigniting talks with the St. Louis Cardinals for third baseman Nolan Arenado."
With Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon off the board, after his trade to the New York Yankees, the Astros' options at third base aren't the best. Eugenio Suarez would be incredible, but he's going to cost a lot.
Arenado is one of the best potential options who could be moved, and even if the Cardinals made him available, the Astros aren't interested in trying to bring him in.

During the offseason, the Astros and Cardinals agreed to a deal that would bring Arenado, the 10-time Gold Glove and six-time Platinum Glove winner, to Houston. But, using his no-trade clause, Arenado vetoed the deal.
Houston didn't end up landing Arenado, and instead settled with Paredes at third base. It's worked out incredibly well, as Paredes was an All-Star this season, while Arenado is struggling a lot in 2025.
This season, Arenado is hitting just .237 with a .669 OPS in 93 games. Houston might've been out regardless of his no-trade clause veto in the offseason based on his production at the plate.
With the injury to Paredes, the Astros are looking to bring in a new third baseman at the deadline. But, between his production at the plate and his offseason no-trade clause invocation, the Astros won't be pursuing Arenado at the deadline.
