The Houston Astros are coming off one of their worst seasons in recent memory. They missed the postseason for the first time since the 2016 season.

Fortunately, Houston, like all other teams, has the opportunity to put a better product on the field in 2026. They need to find another frontline starting pitcher, one to help stabilize the rotation.

Luckily for them, there are still quite a few big-name pitchers who could handle the assignment. The question is, who will the club go after?

While some of the frontline starters have signed a new contract, there are still plenty left looking for a new home in 2026. It's unlikely the club will have the funds to re-sign Framber Valdez, so expect them to look at another option.

One intriguing name that is without a team for 2026 is Justin Verlander. Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer believes he would be an excellent addition in Houston.

"Granted, vintage Verlander isn't walking through that door for anyone. But if the sweeper continues to bamboozle hitters in 2026, he's at least a solid No. 3 in a contender's rotation."

Verlander has taken a step back with his age, but he is still good enough to operate as the third starter on a contending team. On top of that, he has years of experience in Houston.

There would be plenty of fans who would love to see Verlander return, but not everyone. Some fans may want to see the front office focus on someone a little younger and with more upside.

Houston is not the only suitable spot for Verlander, either. Rymer also mentions that a deal with the Detroit Tigers or a return to the San Francisco Giants being legitimate option as well.
