The Houston Astros have dealt with so many injuries this season, with seemingly every player dealing with some injury. Jeremy Pena, Yordan Alvarez, Jake Meyers, and so many others have dealt with sporadic injuries this season.

But the most injured position is in the starting rotation. Of the team's starters, only Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez have been spared either an injury or demotion. However, one starter's injury is extremely unfortunate and a brutal blow for him and the team.

As Chandler Rome of The Athletic shared in a recent article, Luis Garcia, who had missed the last two full seasons, despite coming back for a couple of starts, is expected to be done for the year.

Luis Garcia is likely done for the season

"In an anticipated move that will almost certainly end his season," Rome writes, "Houston Astros right-hander Luis Garcia went on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, one day after exiting his start against the Toronto Blue Jays with a right elbow injury."

Garcia didn't play in the entirety of the 2024 season and only pitched in four games during the 2023 season before missing a significant chunk of time. This season, after working his way back from a tumultuous injury, Garcia only made two starts.

In those two starts, he had a 3.52 ERA, which included a six-inning quality start against the Los Angeles Angels in a win for Houston. But he made it only 1.2 innings against the Blue Jays, where he struck out one batter and walked one.

The loss of Garcia for the rest of the season is a tough blow for the Astros and Garcia. After his long road to recovery was finally over, he made just two starts before hitting the injured list, and now, he is back on the road to recovery.

There's not much season left, and Garcia's injury-list placement is effectively season-ending. While he could, in theory, return if healthy, with Garcia's injury history, the chances for a return are slim to none.

He joins Hayden Wesneski, Ronel Blanco, Brandon Walter, and Spencer Arrighetti among Astros starters who are done for the year in 2025. That's just the list of starters, which shows how much the Astros have struggled with injuries this season.

Houston is just one game up on the Seattle Mariners, and the team needs to bounce back without Garcia in the rotation. It's been a rough year of injuries for Houston, and Garcia's injury isn't just a tough blow for the team but a brutal one for Garcia, who had just returned from a prior injury that kept him out for nearly three seasons.
