The areas around Texas' Hill Country were devastated by a torrent of floods early in the month of July this past summer, and many are still without homes and are still trying to get back on their feet after the horrendous disaster.
Thankfully, for the town of Ingram, Texas, the Houston Astros are more than willing to help out Texans in need.
And also give back to the community in a way that a baseball team would be expected to.
Astros Donate $2.5 Million For New Baseball, Softball Facilities
Saturday afternoon, as the Astros hosted the Seattle Mariners in the midst of a tight battle for the AL West crown and also held Central Texas Strong Day, featuring the attendance of over 1,000 residents of Kerr County, the same area that was impacted by the flooding, at the treat of the Astros Foundation.
There, the team's owner, Jim Crane, announced that the 'Stros would be donating $2.5 million to the community in order to construct three new baseball/softball fields for the town's youth, as well as a pair of batting cages and other facilities, with hopes that the project would be complete in time for the Little League season's commencement in March of 2026.
“Not only is this a commitment of funds, but the Astros will lead the renovations and are committed to having it ready for the beginning of the season in the spring of 2026,” Crane said.
The Astros Foundation, alongside the Texas Rangers, Major League Baseball, and other baseball programs across the Lone Star State will assist in helping with the project and assuring the premises are in top shape for those that use them.
As for the Astros themselves, they sit just outside the playoffs 0.5 games outside of the final Wild Card spot and three games behind the Mariners in the AL West standings.
