The Houston Astros have a crowded infield, but that doesn't mean the team isn't exploring adding to the infield this offseason.

Isaac Paredes, Jeremy Pena, Carlos Correa, Christian Walker, and Jose Altuve make up the infield options in Houston, but a new name could be thrown into the mix.

According to Chadler Rome of The Athletic, the Astros are interested in a St. Louis Cardinals Gold Glove, All-Star infielder. But, just like Altuve, this infielder can also move to the outfield if needed.

Houston could use some additions to the roster this winter, and while the infield isn't the biggest need, adding more talent should always be on the table.

"Two league sources said this week that Houston is among a slew of clubs that have expressed interest in St. Louis Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan," Rome writes.

Donovan is a left-handed-hitting infielder who also has experience starting in the outfield. He's 27 years old and has two more years of club control.

With Houston in dire need of more left-handed hitting and using someone who can hit for average and not strike out a lot, Donovan would be a great addition.

He was an All-Star for the first time in 2025 and had a strong season in his fourth year in the Majors. He hit.287 with a.775 OPS in 118 games.

While he was primarily a second baseman, he also played some time in the outfield. With the addition of Donovan, Houston's infield could become even more of a logjam. That outfield flexibility will be a huge plus for Houston.

In his MLB career, Donovan has a.282 average and a.772 OPS. He's not a power-hitter, clubbing only 40 home runs in four seasons and 492 games.

But his solid batting average and strong strikeout-to-walk ratio (182 walks to 271 strikeouts in his career) make Donovan a quality batter to add to any team's lineup.

Donovan is a name to watch for Astros fans, as their connection to the Cardinals' infielder/outfielder is a real one that could come to fruition this winter.
