The Houston Astros received more bad news on the injury front.
On Tuesday, manager Joe Espada gave an update on Isaac Paredes’ hamstring injury. Paredes suffered the injury on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners and was placed on the 10-day IL the following day.
“It’s going to take some time for us to get Paredes back,” Espada told The Matt Thomas Show With Ross. “We are going to miss him during this stretch of not having him in there.”
Paredes — a two-time All-Star — has been one of the Astros’ most consistent hitters this season, batting .259 with 19 home runs and a .829 OPS.
This injury comes at an inopportune time for the team as they also await the return of All-Star slugger Yordan Alvarez due to a band fracture. Additionally, shortstop Jeremy Pena is also on the shelf with a rib fracture suffered last month.
Regardless, the Astros are still one of the best teams in baseball at 58-42, with a comfortable five-game lead in the AL West. Now, they’ll try to stay afloat while their injured stars recover from their respective injuries.
