It’s not what you want to hear if you’re the Houston Astros.

Prior to Sunday’s matchup with the Athletics, Astros GM Dana Brown provided an update on injured third baseman Issac Paredes, and the update was not an optimistic one.

Speaking on the team’s pregame show with SportsTalk790, Brown said that Paredes’ hamstring injury is “a little bit more severe than we projected,” adding that Paredes will be seeking a second opinion from doctors.

“It's tough to be optimistic when you know it's more severe,” Brown also said.

Paredes had been a constant force for the Astros prior to his injury. The 26-year-old was hitting .259 with 19 home runs and a .829 OPS in 94 games. He was also named to his second-career All-Star appearance for his efforts.

Paredes’ injury comes at a bad time for a Houston team that is already battling so many injuries. The team is already without Jeremy Pena, Yordan Alvarez, Jake Meyers, and several key pitchers.

Despite the injuries, the Astros are 60-45, and hold a four-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West. The hope is that the team can get Paredes — and their other injured stars — back to action sooner rather than later as they look to make another push to a World Series title.
