The Houston Astros have been churning through position players this season, with plenty of injuries and players struggling; there's been no shortage of turnover on the roster.
However, the team's latest move comes at the expense of fan-favorite slugger Jon Singleton. As Singleton's wife, Linzy Singleton, announced, the Astros have designated Singleton for Assignment.
"Let me break the news." Linzy Singleton writes. "Jon was just DFA'd."

Singleton has been an incredible story in the baseball world, after he didn't play in the Major Leagues from 2015 until 2022, making his return to the Majors after a while away from the game.
This year, he was once again on the Astros MLB roster, and he appeared in three games for Houston, getting nine at-bats, getting one hit, and striking out once.

But, after such a brief stint, the Astros are cutting ties with the fan favorite slugger. While he didn't get a lot of opportunity in 2025, he did have a lot of playing time in 2024, and he was solid for the Astros.
Across his 119 games played, Singleton had 83 hits, 46 runs scored, 13 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, 47 walks, and 111 strikeouts. He hit .234 with a .321 on-base percentage and a .386 slugging percentage for a .707 OPS. His 102 OPS+ indicates he was better than the league average hitter last season.
But the Astros are moving on from the 33-year-old after just three games and nine at-bats this season. It's a very brief stint for Singleton in the Majors with the Astros this season, especially with how solid he was in 2024.
The news that Singleton was being designated for assignment, coming from his wife, makes the move sting more for the Astros fan base. Singleton is back to being a free agent after spending time with the Astros and New York Mets this season.
