The Houston Astros know they have to do things differently if they want to put to bed a disastrous 2025 season. It was their first time in nine years that they missed the postseason.

Injuries played a huge part in their downfall, but the club did part ways with their head athletic trainer. They also got rid of their hitting coaches, pitching coach, catching coach, and assistant general manager.

Now, the club looks to see what it can do over the offseason. Some intriguing players are looking for a new opportunity, but the club must clean house first.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, it was announced on Tuesday that the Astros have designated Ramon Urias for assignment. The club will now have a few days to find a trade suitor, or he heads to the open market.

Urias started the season with the Baltimore Orioles, but was traded away ahead of the deadline. Houston acquired the 2022 AL Gold Glove Award winner in exchange for minor league RHP Twine Palmer.

Urias was thought to be the easy replacement for Isaac Paredes after he went down with his torn right hamstring. However, Houston then added Carlos Correa back, which pushed Urias to more of a hybrid role between second and third base.

He struggled at times during his new role, and Houston was likely not willing to pay his arbitration salary and save some payroll. The club has till Friday to find a deal before he gets non-tendered.

Urias has the tools to catch on with another team if he does end up becoming a free agent. While it likely will not be a long-term deal, he could certainly generate enough interest for a club to pull the trigger on a one-year deal where he can prove himself.
