We are just a few days away from MLB's Winter Meetings. For those unaware, this is a four-day event where representatives from all 30 teams gather to discuss business.
This year's meetings will start on December 8 and will go through December 11, with the meetings taking place in Orlando, Florida.
Expect some free agents to sign some deals during this time, but also expect a few trades to be made. Last year at this time, we saw the blockbuster of Kyle Tucker heading to the Chicago Cubs for a handful of players.
Tigers' slugging prospect could be a major trade chip during MLB's Winter Meetings
The Detroit Tigers are going to be kept plenty busy during these meetings. There will likely be multiple representatives trying to figure out how serious the Tigers could be about trading their ace pitcher, Tarik Skubal.
However, according to Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, he could see the Tigers trading away one of their top prospects, catcher Thayron Liranzo.
"A breakout season from AL Gold Glove winner Dillon Dingler at the MLB level and the continued rise of Josue Briceño in the minors gives the Tigers an abundance of catching talent, and there is always a market for potential starting backstops."
The Tigers have multiple options at catcher, and Liranzo is not their top option. Instead, he could be someone who could be the centerpiece of a major trade. He could be someone who brings in another frontline starter to pair behind Skubal, or it could help them get a right-handed bat.
Given he was brought in during the 2024 season in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Jack Flaherty, the fanbase is not as tied to him as they would be if he were taken by the organization in the draft.
