The Detroit Tigers are coming off a fantastic season where they made it all the way to the ALDS for the second consecutive season. However, they were no match for the Seattle Mariners.
Now, the attention turns toward the future. They have plenty of questions they need to answer before the 2026 season gets underway.
One of the biggest questions lies in what the front office is planning on doing with Tarik Skubal, who will be a free agent next year. There have been extension rumors and trade rumors, but Detroit has kept quiet about Skubal's future as of late.
Outside of their ace pitcher, Detroit could use an upgrade at third base, allowing Colt Keith to focus on 1B/DH, and they have been tied to big-time free agent Alex Bregman.
Tigers' projected Opening Day lineup looks like a 2025 rerun
Acquiring Bregman would instantly fire the fanbase up. However, according to Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, he believes the Tigers already made their biggest offseason splash when Gleyber Torres accepted his qualifying offer.
"The Tigers' biggest free-agency splurge could end up being a decision that was out of their hands, as Gleyber Torres accepted his qualifying offer and opted to return to a one-year, $22.025 million deal."
According to Reuter, the Tigers will roll out a similar lineup they did in 2025, consisting of:
- 3B Colt Keith
- 2B Gleyber Torres
- DH Kerry Carpenter
- LF Riley Greene
- 1B Spencer Torkelson
- RF Wenceel Perez
- C Dillon Dingler
- SS Javier Baez
- CF Parker Meadows
While the quiet offseason may not be what fans hoped for, this is still a lineup that can produce a ton of runs. If the core can stay healthy, they should not have a problem returning to the postseason for a third consecutive season.
