If there was one rumor this offseason that the entirety of Major League Baseball is paying extra close attention to, it's what the Detroit Tigers do with Tarik Skubal.

The two-time Cy Young ace is a potential trade candidate, and if he were to be moved, then the Tigers would likely land a massive haul in return.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic, a former MLB general manager, predicted a trade of Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Headlining this blockbuster proposed deal is Tyler Glasnow, as the World Series champions offload a massive package for the best pitcher in baseball.

Bowden predicts that, "The Tigers trade Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers for starting pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Emmet Sheehan and outfielder Zyhir Hope."

This return package for Skubal is a big one. Glasnow is a great starter when he's healthy, and in the MLB postseason in 2025, he was dominant with a 1.69 ERA in six appearances.

Glasnow is under club control through 2027, so instead of losing Skubal after the 2026 season, they will have Glasnow for the next two years.

Sheehan is 26 years old and under club control through 2029. He's coming off a very strong season, posting a 2.82 ERA in 15 appearances and 12 starts for the Dodgers in 2025.

Hope, meanwhile, is a highly rated prospect in the outfield who could form a strong trio with Riley Greene and Max Clark looking into the future.

MoreWhy Tarik Skubal is still Tigers' best offseason trade candidate

This return package of Hope, Sheehan, and Glasnow is not a small one. But in giving up Skubal, it's hard to view any return as worthwhile.

The Tigers would be getting two strong starters to round out the rotation, and a top outfield prospect in return for one season of Skubal.

Bowden's proposed trade would be a good one long-term for Detroit, and it could also give them some better depth for the 2026 season in the rotation, with Jackson Jobe's status uncertain.

While any Skubal trade will be hard to come to terms with, this package wouldn't be the worst outcome for Detroit. And besides, there's no saying the Tigers can't sign Skubal once he becomes a free agent next offseason.
