The Detroit Tigers have been one of the top teams mentioned in trade talks this offseason, but it's mainly revolved around what they will do with Tarik Skubal.

However, the Tigers are unlikely to trade Skubal due to the absurd asking price, leaving them as buyers this winter. And with the need to add talent this offseason, Detroit being linked to a top trade target wouldn't be a surprise.

For USA Today's Bob Nightengale, there's one option he predicts the Tigers will be a trade finalist for. Nightengale predicts that Detroit will finish second in trade talks for Arizona Diamondbacks superstar $105 million infielder Ketel Marte.

Tigers predicted to be trade finalist for D-Backs Ketel Marte

"Marte is traded to the Boston Red Sox," Nieghtengale writes, "but the Detroit Tigers and, yes, the Cincinnati Reds are possibilities."

While Nightengale predicts that Marte will wind up getting traded to the Boston Red Sox, the Tigers being mentioned is noteworthy.

They have Gleyber Torres on a $22.025 million deal for 2026, and while they could find a long-term replacement for him in Marte, who is under contract on a $105 million deal through the 2030 season with a 2031 player option,

Marte is a second baseman, and so is Torres. This could mean that one is forced to switch positions, with Torres being the most likely candidate for either a trade of his own or a position change if this trade were to occur.

But, even if the Tigers don't land Marte, if this prediction - that Marte goes to Boston - then the Tigers might be in a much better position to sign Alex Bregman in free agency.

The Tigers and Red Sox have been linked to a lot of the same players this winter, and while their fight over Bregman is well known, Nightengale predicts they'll be the top landing spots for Ketel Marte this offseason.
