Tigers' free agent update on Alex Bregman is bad news for Detroit image

The Detroit Tigers haven't made any significant splash signings or trades to bolster their lineup this offseason. They brought back Gleyber Torres amid an agreed-upon Qualifying Offer worth $22.25 million.

But, beyond that, they've not made any significant moves. Kyle Finnegan and Kenley Janson were both signed to the bullpen, and a few other pitchers were added, but when it comes to the top of the batting market, they've not been involved.

Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press shared the latest update on the Tigers' interest in free agent third baseman Alex Bregman. While the fit makes a lot of sense, the Tigers are reportedly not in the market as the New Year approaches.

Tigers reportedly still not in market for Alex Bregman

"Four teams are chasing Alex Bregman in free agency," Petzold writes, "The Detroit Tigers aren't involved. At least not yet."

There are a few teams that are involved: the Toronto Blue Jays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, and Boston Red Sox.

While there isn't an AL Central club trying for Bregman, the Tigers should be involved in this market with their need for a new third baseman. But the Tigers haven't gotten involved in the Bregman sweepstakes.

And yet, Petzold is urging fans not completely rule out the Tigers for Bregman this winter. While they're not involved in his market right now, things could change depending on how certain moves happen.

Bregman is a three-time All-Star and is coming off a strong.273 average and.821 OPS season for the Red Sox. He'd be a great addition to the Tigers roster in 2026, but for now, fans will have to be patient when it comes to the Tigers interest in Bregman.

They aren't involved in his sweepstakes right now, but Petzold isn't shutting down the Tigers and Bregman just yet.
