Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is coming off another impressive season. He was key in the club's success this year, posting a 13-6 record with a 2.21 ERA across 195.1 innings of work.
It was another year of dominance as Skubal picked up right where he left off in 2024, when he won the AL Cy Young Award. He is in the running to win it again, but those awards will not be announced until November.
However, the MLBPA awards have been recently announced. For those unfamiliar, these awards are strictly voted on by active members of the MLB player union.
Tigers ace Tarik Skubal takes home second MLBPA AL Outstanding Pitcher Award
The list of winners of the MLBPA awards was revealed on Wednesday morning. Here, Tarik Skubal was listed as AL Outstanding Pitcher of the Year.
Skubal took home the same award last season, making this two now. If he keeps this up, he can put himself in some prestigious company.
Pedro Martinez leads all other pitchers as the only one to win the award four times. He was able to win the award four times in a row from 1997 to 2000. He is followed by Greg Maddux, Roger Clemens, and Clayton Kershaw as the only other pitchers to have won the award three times.
On the National League side of things, Paul Skenes was named top pitcher. He, like Skubal, had an incredible year where he put together a 10-10 record with an MLB-leading 1.97 ERA across 187.2 innings of work.
