The 2026 World Baseball Classic will now feature the two best pitcher in Major League Baseball.
Both back-to-back Cy Young Award winners will be featured on the roster after the announcement Thursday of Tarik Skubal joining Paul Skenes on the Team USA roster for the WBC.
Skenes was the first big-name pitcher to commit to the roster months ago and now Skubal has joined him. The addition of Skubal now gives manager Mark DeRosa a rotation that features both Skenes and Skubal, Joe Ryan, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes, Matthew Boyd and Garrett Whitlock.
That rotation is certainly so far, the best of any team in the field. It will certainly be needed, as the lineups being put together by Team Dominican Republic and Team Puerto Rico feature some of the game's top talents. Having elite starting rotation as well as bullpen arms will be important for Team USA's quest to a championship.
Two or three more relievers should round out the squad for Team USA, and they'll head into the 2026 WBC looking to win the tournament for the first time since 2017.
