The Detroit Tigers are doing everything possible to keep their top spot in the AL Central and capture the division title. It will be their first title since 2014.
Detroit still holds the lead in the division entering the final week of the regular season, but the Cleveland Guardians are making a strong push to pass the Tigers. They are within one game of each other with six games remaining.
In the midst of a six-game losing streak, the Tigers decided to move on from veteran starter Charlie Morton. It took just one day for the 41-year-old to get picked up by a new team.
Charlie Morton joins Braves after being released from Tigers
Charlie Morton lasted just nine starts after getting traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Detroit Tigers in late July at the deadline. His most recent start was on Sept. 19, where he gave up five hits and six earned runs in just 1.1 innings. This was the last straw, and the Tigers designated the veteran for assignment over the weekend.
Just a day later, the Atlanta Braves announced the signing of Morton to a contract. The veteran has spent five seasons with the club throughout his 18-year career.
