Before the 2025 season came along, Jose Urquidy signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Tigers. The club knew that he was recovering from Tommy John surgery that he had in June of last year, and he has yet to make his debut with the club.
However, Urquidy could be making his debut with Detroit over the weekend. He was recently activated off the 60-day IL, and with Tarik Skubal being removed from his start on Friday, getting another pitcher healthy could not have come at a better time.
It has been almost two years since Urquidy last started a game. He will certainly have some rust to knock off, but he is just ready to get back out there.
Jose Urquidy 'anxious, excited' ahead of debut with the Tigers
Jose Urquidy has been waiting quite some time for this moment. He has missed competing at this level and helping out his club, and spoke about his emotions ahead of his return, via The Detroit News' Chris McCosky.
"I'm pretty anxious," said Urquidy. "I'm excited. I don't know how it's going to be. I've been waiting so long for this and I've had so much support from my family and they will be here. I don't know how it's going to be. Maybe I'm just going to cry. Just a mixture of emotions."
Urquidy's family will be in attendance when he gets on the mound, and with his long-awaited return, he is not sure what emotions will be spilled. Like he said, do not be surprised if he gets teary-eyed up there with everything he has been through lately.
