The Cleveland Guardians are still trying to get things going again, attempting to snap a three-game losing streak in Wednesday's game against the Boston Red Sox.
There's got to be a sense of urgency for the Guardians, as they slowly creep down the AL Wild Card standings. Entering Wednesday, Cleveland is four games behind the Seattle Mariners for the last spot.
Before the Guardians try to defend the series sweep, the team made a roster move.
Guardians recall Joey Cantillo, option Zak Kent before game vs. Red Sox
It's been announced by GuardsInsider on X that Cleveland optioned right-handed relief pitcher Zak Kent to make room for lefty Joey Cantillo, whose recently transitioned from the bullpen to becoming a starting pitcher this season.

Cantillo, 25, has been something of an experiment for the Guardians this season. After working primarily as a starter during his rookie year in 2024, he opened 2025 in the bullpen. That stint didn't last long, and Cleveland began giving starts to the young prospect.

He's been down in Triple-A Columbus since Aug. 17, but through 29 games and eight starts this season, Cantillo has a 2-2 record, 3.93 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 80 strikeouts in 66.1 innings. He will start for the Guardians on Wednesday, going against Red Sox lefty Brennan Bernardino.
As for Zak Kent, 27, the right-handed bullpen arm has gone back and forth from Triple-A and the major leagues multiple times this season. Through six appearances for the Guardians this season, he has a 4.66 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and nine strikeouts through 9.2 innings.
