Guardians' Chase DeLauter breaks silence on potential MLB callup image

The Cleveland Guardians have had one of the more frustrating seasons in baseball in 2025. From their rough start to their hot streak in the middle of the summer, to their recent struggles, the Guardians have had a tumultuous season.

This shakiness hasn't just occurred in the Majors; one of the Guardians' top prospects, outfielder Chase DeLauter, has also experienced a tumultuous season.

Speaking with Grant Puskar on the Flip-Flop Sports Podcast, DeLauter spoke on his struggles to stay healthy this season and whether he's expecting to get a call-up to the Major Leagues this season or not.

Chase DeLauter on His MLB Expectations for 2025

"From a player's side," DeLauter said, "we don't really know until that time (comes). If I had to guess, I would expect to see some games in Columbus. I haven't heard anything else. My personal guess would be that I'm going to head back there, make sure I can get myself out on the field for the last couple of remaining weeks, and then we'll see what happens."

DeLauter has struggled with multiple injuries this season, including a wrist issue that required surgery. He's missed a significant portion of the season, as he has not played since July 11th.

Before hitting the injured list, DeLauter was having a strong season at Triple-A. He had a .278 batting average and an .859 OPS in 34 games. He had 35 hits, eight doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 21 RBIs.

The 16th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft has been impressing in the minor leagues, but with this wrist issue, a potential call-up to the Major Leagues has been put on hold.

If he hadn't gotten injured and continued to hit as well as he did before his injury, he might've seen an MLB stint at some point in August, or in September when rosters expand.

His minor league career has been marred by injuries, which have derailed his chances of making his MLB debut. The 2026 season might be the year he makes his debut, but if it weren't for the injury this season, he might've already been in the Majors.

DeLauter, the Guardians' second-ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline, doesn't think he will make his MLB debut this season. Instead, once he returns, likely in September, he will get back up to speed in Triple-A.

He could earn an MLB roster spot for the 2026 season, but for now, the chances of a DeLauter MLB debut in 2025 don't look promising.
