The Cincinnati Reds are in alignment.

Despite frequent rumors being floated by trade predictors, the Reds don't appear to have any intention of trading star right-handed pitcher Hunter Greene.

The latest to make that clear was manager Terry Francona.

Francona appeared on the Baseball Isn't Boring podcast and said this:

"Pitching is too hard for us to acquire through free agency... We gotta keep Hunter on the mound."

That makes sense, of course. Greene is the Reds' ace.

His fastball averaged 99.5 miles per hour in 2025, which is incredible.

Greene is just 27 and would likely get a good return in trade.

But the Reds have Greene in the middle of a very affordable six-year, $53 million contract extension. If they exercise his player option at the end of the deal, they'll pay him $21 million in 2029 and not have to worry about finding a new ace until 2030.

This past season, Greene went 7-4 after returning from injury. He had a 2.76 ERA, lowering his career ERA to 3.65.

The No. 2 overall pick in 2017 took a bit of time but eventually developed into the star the Reds hoped they were getting with that selection. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to trade him now.
