The Cincinnati Reds didn't land the most notable free agent from Ohio, Kyle Schwarber.

They'll have to settle for Caleb Ferguson.

On Tuesday, the Reds and Ferguson reached a free-agent agreement (pending physical), according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Ferguson played his high school ball in West Jefferson, about 90 minutes from Cincinnati.

He was originally a 38th-round pick out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers and signed rather than go to college.

He broke into the majors with the Dodgers in 2018 and pitched in parts of five seasons for L.A., compiling a 3.43 ERA in 201 appearances.

Ferguson split the 2024 season between the Yankees and Astros with a combined 4.64 ERA.

In 2025, he began with the Pirates and ended with the Mariners, totaling a 3.58 ERA in 70 outings.

All told, Ferguson has a 3.66 ERA in the major leagues with 365 strikeouts in 327 innings pitched.

He's one of the better left-handed relievers in the game that isn't particularly well known.

Ferguson is 29 years old, and he measures at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds.

The Reds have a quality pitching staff but definitely could use some bullpen help, and now they've found it in the form of Ferguson.
