The Cincinnati Reds, while coming off a postseason appearance, were tied to Kyle Schwarber for much of the offseason. They offered around $125 million to sign the hometown slugger, but they swung and missed.
Schwarber instead chose to return to the Philadelphia Phillies, a place he has been for the past four seasons. The two sides agreed on a five-year, $150 million contract.
Now, the Reds head back to the drawing board. With few big-name free agents left, their options are starting to dwindle by the day.

Reds could come to terms with the top free agent after missing out on Kyle Schwarber
Looking at the top free agents available, Eugenio Suarez sticks out like a sore thumb. He is coming off a split season with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners, where he hit.228/.298/.526 with a career-high 49 home runs and a career-high 118 runs batted in.
According to Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly, the Reds could be an ideal landing spot for Suarez.
"The Reds could circle back to Suarez, who hit 189 home runs as a member of their team from 2015-2021. He could help them to return to the postseason for the second year in a row, and once again playing his home games at Great American Ball Park would allow Suarez –who is currently sitting on 325 homers–to run up his career totals."
Suarez is already familiar with the organization, playing seven seasons in Cincinnati. He would be the middle-of-the-order bat that would produce the power that the team is looking for.
However, they are not the only teams looking to bring in Suarez. The Mariners are at play here, and so are the Boston Red Sox, who are looking to push the envelope in 2026.
