The Cincinnati Reds moved some roster pieces around on Tuesday.
They added three promising players to the 40-man roster while designating one for assignment to make space.
The three additions:
- IF Edwin Arroyo
- IF Leo Balcazar
- OF Hector Rodriguez
They DFA'd right-handed pitcher Carson Spiers.
Spiers threw in 117 MLB innings between 2023 and 2025. He had a 5.69 ERA for the Reds.
His ascent to the majors at all was unlikely, because he signed as an undrafted player in 2020.

The three guys added to the 40-man roster had that done to avoid their selection in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.
Arroyo came to the Reds in the Luis Castillo trade from Seattle.
He played 120 games at Double-A this season and batted.284.
Rodriguez came to the Reds in the Tyler Naquin trade from the Mets. This season, he spent time at Double-A and Triple-A and batted.298 with a.481 slugging average.
Balcazar signed with the Reds in 2023. He spent time at High-A and Double-A in 2025 and was an above-average hitter by wRC+ at both levels.
It makes sense for the Reds to keep all these guys around, and so they'll head into the offseason with a slightly better grasp of their future.
