The Chicago White Sox are finding themselves in the headlines quite a bit as of late.
That started Sunday when Chicago and Japanese superstar Munetaka Murakami agreed on a two-year contract worth $34 million. Murakami has been one of the most prolific power hitters in NPB history and it was the White Sox that eventually landed him after concerns surrounding his ability to hit MLB pitching.
Chicago stayed in the news Tuesday when it agreed to a one-year deal with left-hander Sean Newcomb. According to a post on X from the official team account, Newcomb will make $4.5 million next season. In a corresponding move, left-hander Ryan Rollison was designated for assignment.
Newcomb made his major league debut in 2017 with the Atlanta Braves and remained there until the 2022 season when he was traded to the Chicago Cubs. Since the trade to the Cubs, Newcomb has appeared with both the Boston Red Sox and Athletics.
The second half of the 2025 season may have been the best stretch of Newcomb's career. He posted a 1.75 ERA across 36 appearances, easily the lowest ERA of his at any point with any team. He turned himself into a trusted left-handed reliever that has now joined an up-and-coming White Sox team.
