Chicago Cubs legend Anthony Rizzo has finally dropped the curtain on his career after 14 seasons, including a World Series title and three All-Star selections. The announcement was made on Wednesday and the Cubs have already arranged for a special ceremony this Saturday to honor the first baseman's time in Wrigley Field.
Rizzo will continue to be affiliated with the Cubs as a team ambassador after retirement. Cubs Executive Chairman Tom Ricketts called Rizzo the "face of one of the most successful eras in Chicago Cubs history."
However, the Cubs are not the only family Rizzo has. This summer, the former first baseman and his wife, Emily, expanded their family.
Does Anthony Rizzo have children?
Yes, Anthony Rizzo is a father. Earlier in January, Anthony Rizzo and Emily Vakos announced the pregnancy in a creative Instagram post, where their dog Kevin wears a "Big Brother" bandana and poses near ultrasound photos and baby items.
The couple became parents this summer. Just a day before his retirement announcement, according to a report by the New York Post, Rizzo was seen enjoying a Yankees game with his wife and newborn son. This all but confirms that the Cubs legend is a father.
Rizzo met his future partner, Emily, during spring training in Arizona in 2016. Emily was interning with the Cubs’ nutrition department. After a year of dating, the first baseman proposed in June 2017 on a romantic cruise on Lake Michigan. In December 2018, the couple tied the knot in South Florida. The ceremony was attended by his close friends, family and some Cubs teammates.
Off the field as well, Rizzo is quite active with his Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, founded in 2012. The objective is to support pediatric cancer patients and their families. The noble cause is inspired by Rizzo's own battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, after he was first diagnosed in 2008 at the age of 18.
